A BOOK REVIEW I CAN'T RESIST SHARING, BY AN EXPERT ON THE SUBJECT!

One of my favorite picture book author/illustrators, Carol Baicker-McKee has written a wonderful and very informative review of an absolutely delightful children's book, A POCKETFUL OF POSIES, A TREASURY OF NURSERY RHYMES and its creative author/artist, Salley Mavor. (I can't wait to get my hands on this book!) You can read Carol's post HERE at Route 19 Writers. You can also find her on her fun blog, Doodles and Noodles.

Carol said she loves giving nursery rhyme books as baby gifts, and I wholeheartedly agree! One other title that I've recommended is: BABY DAYS: A QUILT OF RHYMES AND PICTURES, BY BELINDA DOWNES. Either of these books fits in the new baby gift/shower gift category. The new mother will love it as much as her child in the years to come!

Magic Rally to Stagger LeBron and Miami

MIAMI (Reuters) - The Orlando Magic Miami numbed with a return in the second half inspired on Friday, overcoming a deficit of 24 points with a burst of three points to secure a thrilling 99-96 victory in heat.

The Magic took control with a run of 18 points fools right in the fourth quarter, spelled out a late fee of Miami in the final seconds of the match.

"That one almost defies explanation," said Magic coach Stan Van Gundy.

"Even six minutes into the second half, we just looked down and out. We had no way to stop 'em.

"It was a great comeback. This is probably one of those games I will remember in 10 years. When I forget everything except all losses. This is a victory that I could remember. "

Orlando, who scored an impressive 48 points from the three point line, led all scorers with 24 points from Jason Richardson to move within three games of Miami to lead the Southeast Division.

LeBron James had 29 points and Dwyane Wade added 28 to lead the way to Miami, the duo combined for 47 points as the heat of an advance of 63-45 at halftime.

"We're measuring right now. We just keep pushing through. There is no other way to put it," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

"The guys really wanted it. For most games, we played hard enough to get there and then the tide turned already."

A LIBRARY, A CIRCLE, A PUPPY, AND CUPCAKES IN ORANGE, CALIFORNIA

Old Towne Orange, in Southern California, is the quintessential "Main Street USA" kind of place. There's a town square, the "Plaza", with a traffic circle, surrounded by historic old facades (which house quaint restaurants and over 60 antique dealers), Watson's Drug Store (where scenes from the movie THAT THING YOU DO were filmed), charming arts and craft style homes, and little neighborhood churches...

And they have a remodeled library & History Center that fits in perfectly! The children's section is great. I headed over there this week with my library side-kick, Sophie and her Mom. (The puppy part and cupcakes are coming up).

This "Orange Crawl" leads into the Storytime Room

Don't worry - there's a regular door for parents!

Detail from some HUGE murals near the entrance to the children's area.

Jungle animals watch, as you pick out books!

In the center of the room is a huge computer area...

...complete with animal headphones!

Our library book picks-of-the-day (two cautionary tales):
Sophie's: THE GREAT WHITE MAN-EATING SHARK, by Margaret Mahy, hearkens back to "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" in a sharky kind of way!

Mine: GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS by Lauren Child. You won't believe what happens to Goldilock's little red shoes!

Now: on to the puppy and cupcakes...

Yes, the town of Orange is THIS CUTE! (photo by crispyleaves.com)

The "Orange Circle" is a traffic round-about surrounding a park in the center of town - right around the corner from the library. And "The Perfect Circle Cupcakery" was the perfect place for an after-library-treat. (We got ours "to go", but the inside of this place is A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!) Now for the puppy: Sophie's new Rottweiler, "SADIE"!

Somebody wants to go inside...

What are you looking at, Sadie??

Ohhhh...Sophie's decadent. chocolate. cupcake.
